Fresh fish can be bought from the local fishmonger, housed in a fish market that was built in 1855. And some of the town’s popular restaurants and pubs can be found amongst the historic buildings and pretty cottages that line both sides of the harbour.

 

The shopping centre has many of the top high street names as well as a good selection of smaller shops selling contemporary jewellery, household goods, clothing, shoes, gifts and much more.

 

There are RSPB reserves at Radipole Lake in the town centre and at nearby Lodmoor. And Portland is another favourite spot for birdwatchers as the island is used as stopping off point for a wide variety of migrating birds.

 

Walkers can take their pick from a gentle stroll along the promenade to a hike along the South West Coast Path, which offers wonderful views along this World Heritage coastline.

 

Sport lovers can choose from a whole range of water sports: there are bowling clubs, leisure centres, fitness suites, golf courses and boat or shore fishing.
